Tightwire follows Caroline Black through her rookie year as a psych intern. The story tracks her work with her first patient, Collier, who is seductive, angry, troubled and brilliant. Caroline scrambles to build a treatment with the help of a gifted supervisor, and Collier struggles to heal from a past filled with secrets. As they work together, she discovers her gift as a therapist, and he discovers his ability to heal.
Caroline Black, age 15, hiding her inner fire under layers of academic achievement, transfers from exclusive Laurel Academy to Hollywood High School. She finds gangs, more than forty languages, violence targeting the gay students and friendships that open her world. Through the school year, Caroline discovers a richness in diversity that brings out her hidden fire, and allows her to thrive in ways she never imagined.
