“I am a high school senior in the New York area. This book was recommended to me by a friend and I am really glad to have read it. The writing was excellent and the story interesting. I read 100 pages easily without realizing how into it I was. I guess I want to thank the author for bringing up LGBTQ issues and treating them with great sensitivity.”

“I’m so happy to pass along Hollywood High to my daughters as the most intriguing take on LGBT issues I’ve read in the YA literature. Amy Kaufman Burk writes with the sensitivity of Sarah Dessen and the delightful insight of the brilliant John Green. She is an exciting newcomer to the highest circles of YA literature.”

“I wasn’t able to put Hollywood High down the second it came to my Kindle. The author is a talented writer, and the storyline engages with complex and dynamic themes. Although I would classify this book as a coming of age novel, it serves another very important purpose in its engagement with LGBT themes.”

Tightwire

From 5-Star Reviews on Amazon

"Burk nails the inner and outer worlds of a psychologist-in-training! As a recently licensed psychologist, I was particularly curious to read about Caroline’s adventures as a new trainee. Amy Kaufman Burk captures it brilliantly. Her main client in the book is smart and very challenging: a really 3-dimensional character who keeps the new therapist on her toes….This book is highly recommended especially for anyone interested in psychotherapy or in becoming a psychotherapist. Burk’s years of experience in this field come shining through.”

“This is a compelling look at the interpersonal dynamics between therapist and patient. A must-read for anyone considering or practicing clinical work in psychiatry, psychology or social work….The dialogue is beautiful and the characters endure. Freud would be intrigued."

“Tightwire embodies an incredibly smart, audacious approach at shedding some welcomed light onto the inner workings of a psychotherapist at the beginning stages of her career, and the pathways that led her to her chosen profession. The author tackles some very complicated issues head on, and does so with tactfulness, grace and humor. Brilliantly tied together at the end….A definite page-turner.”

“Amy Kaufman Burk’s second novel, Tightwire, will immediately pull you in. The reader learns about Caroline’s inner most thoughts, vulnerabilities, and triumphs as a therapist in training. We also flash back to Caroline’s unusual childhood and adolescent years growing up in Hollywood, and how that has shaped her. One of Caroline’s first clients, Collier, tells his story layer by layer, and we see how both therapist and client grow together. Read Tightwire if you’ve ever been in therapy, or if you were, or are a therapist in training. Read this if you love a good story.”

“Amy Kaufman Burk is a talented writer. I loved her first book even though I rarely read YA literature. This book continues the story of Caroline Black as an adult and begins her work as a psychologist. Burk has an ability to make the characters come alive and to make the reader really engage with them. Caroline is seeing patients as a psychology intern and treats some really interesting ones while perfecting her own skills as a psychologist. I really loved this book!”
